Description
The gateway attached to number 7 and the stables at right angles is an early 19th-century structure located at the rear of the Cross Inn on Towngate in Heptonstall. It is constructed from finely dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has gable fronts facing the yard. In the center, there are paired doorways, although one is blocked, with monolithic jambs. To the left, there is a two-light flat faced mullioned window. The gable includes two large square pitching holes that have a rebate on a plain stone surround and a central mullion for shutters, with the gudgeons still intact. Attached to number 7, there is a wide semi-circular arch with solid spandrels and dressed coping.
