Description
Hollins Farmhouse, originally known as Adamroyd, is a house dating from the mid-17th century. It features a single cell with an added larger square section, designed in a double-pile layout under a single span roof that is hipped at one end. The earliest part of the building is constructed from large dressed stone with watershot masonry and has a stone slate roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high.
The south front retains a 2-light double chamfered mullioned window, although it is missing its mullion, situated above the doorway. The main house has quoins and double chamfered mullioned windows, with seven lights on each floor facing south and five lights (missing some mullions) on the north side. The return wall facing west features two bays of 3-light flat faced mullioned windows on each floor, with the central light being sashed. There are two stacks on the main range and another stack on the gable of the earliest part.
Inside, the building reveals spine beams supported by iron columns. It appears that part of the house was demolished during rebuilding in the 18th century, leaving one cell of the 17th-century structure, which has a lower roofline. This cell has stone flagged floors on the first floor and is believed to have been used as a textile warehouse.
