Description
Higher New Yard is a house from the early 19th century, featuring a gabled cross-wing made of hammer-dressed stone that dates back to the late 17th or early 18th century. The building has a stone slate roof and stands two storeys tall. The facade has a doorway near the center with monolithic jambs, flanked by a broad 2-light mullioned window, with a matching window above. There are stacks at the gables. The cross-wing projects forward and has quoined angles, with a 2-light slightly chamfered edged mullioned window and a larger 19th-century 2-light window above. The right-hand return wall features two 2-light chamfered mullioned windows, although the mullions have been removed, along with other altered mullioned windows. Above these are an arch-headed light and other later inserted windows. The rear gable also includes one arch-headed light at ground level. The front gable has a base for a finial at its apex. The house is prominently located on a hill to the southwest of Stainland village.
