Description

Bradley Hall Golf Club House is a manor house that dates back to 1598, likely built by the Akroyd family as an addition to an earlier house from 1577 for Sir John Savile. The building features dressed stone and a stone slate roof. The existing two-storey range is quite long but has been obscured by later additions. Only the gables showcase elements of the original structure.

The north gable boasts an impressive five-sided bay window that is two storeys high and semi-octagonal in shape, featuring cross windows on the front and canted sides, along with a single light on the square return sides. Each light is slightly rebated and has a hollow chamfer. A hoodmould above the ground floor bay window extends over a ten-light mullioned and transomed window, of which six lights are blocked. This window has a chamfered surround and hollow chamfers on each light. Above it is a similar five-light window with a hoodmould.

The south gable has tall blocked windows with hoodmoulds on both floors, as well as a small blocked doorway that is obscured by a later stack. The rear wall appears to be blind but once featured a cart entry. There are two small stacks at the ridge.

This building is a significantly altered but important remnant of the work by the Savile masons. Additionally, fragments of a rose window and a datestone from 1598 can be found loose in the grounds.
