Description
Weather Hill is a house, originally dating to the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of large dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The house was initially planned with a three-room through-passage layout, though the service wing is now ruinous. The two surviving sections of the house have replaced original flat-faced mullioned windows with later replacements to the ground floor. One section has a two-light fire window above which is a two-light window lacking two mullions. A break in the stonework indicates a former doorway with monolithic jambs which is now blocked. Another section incorporates a four-light window above a three-light double-chamfered mullioned window. The right-hand return wall features a coped gable with kneelers and a doorway with a Tudor arched lintel, composite jambs, and stop-chamfered surround. A window was removed in the mid-20th century, from between the derelict service end and main body of the house, at the south front where the original through-passage would have been. The rear elevation has a six-light window above a three-light double-chamfered mullioned window. A later 17th-century kitchen wing projects forward, featuring a coped gable with moulded kneelers, a gable stack, and a doorway with a depressed Tudor arch in a lean-to porch located in the through-passage position. There are two stacks to the ridge. The interior shows scarf-jointed spine beams, evidence of a former bressumer, and stop-chamfered floor joists. A doorway into the parlour has a deep chamfered surround.
