Description
Nos 2 to 5 Laburnum Place in Apperley Bridge, built probably as a farmhouse in the latter part of the 17th century, were later subdivided and extended in the early to mid 18th century, particularly No 5. The building is two storeys high, constructed of coursed gritstone with a stone slate roof. Nos 2 to 4 feature two light chamfered mullion windows set in splayed reveals, with some mullions cut, and No 4 has 19th-century windows inserted. No 3 has a four-centred chamfered head doorway with a lintel dated 1674. The doorway to No 4 has a lintel dated 1727, which may indicate the time when No 5 was added. Although No 5 is also two storeys, its elevations are taller and designed more sophisticatedly, possibly serving as a coach house. The building has rusticated quoins, large dentils on the carved stone eaves cornice, and coped gable ends. The first floor features a tripartite square mullioned lunette window, while the ground floor has been altered with a modern window. The gable end includes a blind Venetian window with a keystone in the arch.
