Description

Hodgson Fold comprises two semi-detached houses, numbers 9 and 10, dating to approximately 1870. They were built by the Hodge family, reflecting their increased prosperity in the later 19th century. The houses are of two storeys and have an attic. The western facades are plain, constructed from pitch-faced sandstone, with chamfered quoins. The roofs are slate, with deep eaves supported by modillion brackets, and tall corniced chimneys. Curved gable dormers project from the roof. The main section has four windows, with flanking breaks. These breaks contain paired round-headed first-floor windows and corniced canted bay windows on the ground floor. Corniced doorways, supported by console brackets, are positioned next to the breaks. The interior of number 10 remains largely unaltered, retaining original mouldings and fittings. The right-hand front ground floor room has mirror-panelled walls and an overmantel above the marble fireplace.
