Description

This is a terrace of six improved workers' houses located on Higher School Street, Shipley, as part of the wider Saltaire model village. Completed by 1868, the terrace was designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. The houses are constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with a Welsh slate roof. They are two storeys high, with each house originally consisting of two bays. Number 6 breaks forward slightly and features a bracketed gable.

The entrances are set in stepped reveals, each with a fanlight above. The ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted. Number 6 has a triple-window arrangement to the first floor with round-arched lights. The other houses have square-headed windows to the first floor. A sill band runs across the first floor level. Original sash windows remain in numbers 2 and 3. The front doors are original four-panel doors at numbers 1 and 3.
