Description
No 40 Caroline Street is a house completed by 1868, designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a Welsh slate roof. The entrance has a fanlight and is set in a stepped reveal, while the ground-floor window has a sunk panel below the sill. Both are round-arched and include a keystone and archivolted design. The first-floor has a triple group of round-arched lights with long keystones. The house retains its original sash windows, has a sill band, and brackets at the gable. This building is part of the Saltaire model village.
