Description

This is a terrace of six overlookers' houses with an attached arcade, completed by 1868 as part of the Saltaire model village. The buildings were designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. Constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof, the terrace includes six houses numbered 67 to 71, and an attached arcade. Number 71 is three-storey, while the remaining houses are two-storey, each featuring two bays. The entrances are topped with rectangular fanlights, and the ground-floor windows have sunk panels beneath the sills. The houses share cornices supported by long brackets. First-floor windows are plain while the second-floor windows are smaller in size. Original sash windows remain in number 71. Sill bands divide the floors. Stone brackets support the guttering. The roof is hipped, and the building has stone stacks with cornices. The left and right returns present two similar bays. An attached two-bay arcade connects the terrace to number 52 Titus Street and provides access to a rear road. The buildings are included on the list for their group value as part of the Saltaire model village.
