Description

This is a terrace of houses built as accommodation for workers in 1868, designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt as part of the model village of Saltaire. The houses are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof. Numbers 50 and 51 are three storeys high, while the rest of the terrace consists of two-storey dwellings. Each house has two bays. Numbers 22 and 51 project forward, and numbers 23 and 50 are attached to the rear of those properties. The entrances feature rectangular fanlights, and the ground-floor windows have recessed panels beneath the sills. All the houses have cornices supported by projecting brackets. The first-floor windows are plain, and there is a decorative band separating the floors. Original sash windows remain in number 51. Stone brackets support the guttering, and the end blocks have hipped roofs. Stone stacks are topped with cornices. The returns on the right and left-hand sides each have four bays and include entrances to numbers 22, 23, 50, and 51. A recent porch has been added to number 22. The terrace is included on the list for its group value as part of the Saltaire model village.
