Description

This is a terrace of three houses and shops, completed by 1868 as part of the Saltaire model village, designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. The building is constructed of dressed stone, with a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and an Italianate facade of nine bays, with the central five bays projecting forward and topped by a parapet. The facade is framed by rusticated ashlar quoins and a deep entablature between floors. The central shop doorway, belonging to No. 16, is round-arched, featuring a shop window to the left and two plain sash windows to the right. No. 15 has a round-arched doorway with a deep fanlight over the door and two plain sash windows to its right. The first floor also features round-arched, archivolted windows. There are deep bracketed eaves and a hipped roof, complemented by tall stacks with cornices. The side elevations are similar, featuring two bays on the left side and three bays on the right, with two bays being blind.
