Description

The Old Grammar School, dating from the 17th century, is located on Station Road in Burley in Wharfedale. The building is constructed of squared coursed stone and features a stone slate roof. To the left of the plain stone doorway, there are two windows: one with six lights and another with eight lights, both divided by stone transoms and mullions. These tall windows likely illuminate what was originally the school room, which extends up to the roof tie beams. Inside this room, there is a notable stone fireplace. To the right of the doorway, the building appears to have had two floors, likely serving as the schoolmaster's dwelling. In the lower section, there is a four-light window divided by stone mullions, and above it, a similar three-light window, both featuring hood moulds.
