Description
Nos 16 and 18 Chapel Street are a pair of two-storey sandstone townhouses built around 1840-1850. They feature three bays, a plinth, a sill band, and a moulded stone eaves cornice that incorporates the gutter. The low-pitched slate roof complements the overall design. The round-headed windows are set within continuous moulded architrave surrounds that extend down to the plinth on the ground floor, flanking panelled aprons. No 16 retains its original revealed glazing bar sashes, with the bars intersecting at the heads, making it a unique example in Bradford. In contrast, No 18 has 19th-century plate glass sashes. The doorways are located in the end bays, featuring panelled doors with four steps leading up, semi-circular fanlights (with No 16 maintaining an intersecting glazing pattern to match its windows), and plain pilasters flanking the entrances with archivolt arches above.
