Description

No 48 and 50 Bennetthorpe are a pair of houses located in Doncaster, built in the early 19th century with later alterations. They are constructed of red brick, featuring brick and stone dressings, and have concrete tile roofs. Each house is three storeys high and consists of two bays.

The entrance to each house includes a doorcase with engaged columns and a moulded cornice, with No 48 on the right featuring a 20th-century six-panel door and an original margin glazed overlight. No 50 has a four-panel door and a plain overlight. Each house has a canted bay window in the inner bays, with plate glass sashes set in pilastered stone surrounds topped with a moulded cornice.

Above the bay windows, there is a continuous bracketed first-floor balcony; however, the railings for No 48 are now missing. The railings for No 50 are adorned with acanthus leaf pendants and finials between plain bars. Each house has two full-height first-floor sashes: No 48 features two equal panes, while No 50 has 15 panes that are unequally hung. Above, there is a continuous stone sill band on the second floor, with No 50 having a pair of 12-pane sashes and No 48 featuring two 20th-century windows in the original openings. All windows are set beneath cambered brick arches, and the houses have bracketed eaves and a central brick ridge stack.
