Description
The gate to Elmfield House and the attached walls were built in the late 19th century, designed in a style reminiscent of the late 17th century. Constructed from ashlar and coursed squared stone, the gate stands approximately 10 feet high, while the walls reach about 6 feet in height, extending roughly 300 yards to the east and 600 yards to the west. The gateway features a semi-circular arch with rusticated jambs, radiating voussoirs, and a panelled keystone that has a moulded pendent and a carved arched top. Above the gateway is a moulded segmental broken and open pediment. The tops of the attached walls are adorned with carved side scrolls, and the walls themselves have ramps and flat copings.
