Description

No 28 East Parade, which includes No 29 Peckover Street, is a building dating from around 1880 to 1890. It is a three-storey works and office block located at the corner of Peckover Street, extending back to Scoresby Street. The structure is made of sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings and features Jacobean and William and Mary architectural details on Peckover Street.

The building has a bevelled corner with a bow window that is supported by fluted console brackets. There are string and sill courses that sweep down to the corner. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top, with a parapet over the corner that is returned and raised into a gable featuring a ball finial above three bays facing Peckover Street. At ground level, there is a large three-light workshop window, divided by a fluted console-pilaster, with wrought iron rails in front. The entrance is marked by a pilastered doorway topped with a steep pediment.

On the East Parade side, the building has a long range with shallow eared architrave surrounds and cornices above those on the ground floor. The north gable end facing Scoresby Street is topped with a ball finial, and there is an engine house at a right angle to the main structure, featuring a tapering square chimney stack with a shallow machicolation at the crown.
