Description

Sycamore House and the attached barn date from the second quarter of the 18th century, with alterations made to the house in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble brought to course and features a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and has a two-cell plan. The house, located on the left, has a central doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround that rises to form a false ogee lintel. On either side of the doorway, there are bays with 2-light flat-faced mullioned windows on each floor. The right bay retains 4-paned sash windows. The left gable is coped and features kneelers and a stack, with two additional stacks along the ridge. The rear of the house has a similar doorway to the front and two bays of windows with chamfered surrounds, along with another set of windows at mezzanine level, likely providing light to the stair. The barn on the right has a segmental arched cart-entry formed by two cantilevered stones with a keystone.
