Description
The former doorway, dating from 1705 to 1707, has been re-erected on the south side of the lower lake, accompanied by an adjoining section of wall. This doorway originally belonged to Bradford Hall, which faced Kirkgate. It features an architrave eared doorcase, flanked by panelled plaster strips, and is supported by finely carved acanthus leaf consoles that hold up a broken scrolled pediment displaying the arms of the Rawson family. The doorway is constructed of sandstone ashlar and is set against a wall that has rusticated quoins and a swept Dutch gable topped with a pineapple finial. Behind the doorway, there is a niche with a scrolled framed cartouche panel that indicates its origin.
