Description

The lodge at the east entry to Roberts Park was built around 1870 by Lockwood and Mawson for Sir Titus Salt. This single-storey building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof in the Gothic Revival style. The lodge has a T-shaped layout with an open porch located at the angle between the two ranges on the south front.

The facing gable includes a semicircular-arched four-paned sash window, which is adorned with a pointed-arched hoodmould and an impost that creates a continuous stringcourse. The gable is coped and bracketed, topped with a hooded bellcote. There is a four-flued central ridge stack and another stack on this range. The open porch is slightly set back and features a semicircular arch supported by Corinthian columns, with floral-decorated spandrels.

The right-angled wing has an arched sash window and a central double-flued ridge stack. The left-hand return wall displays three bays of arched windows, all linked by a stringcourse to the impost. The right-hand return wall, which is the gable of the wing, features a semicircular bay window with three arched windows, with Doric columns serving as mullions. This lodge is part of the model village of Saltaire.
