Description
The tea-room, now used as a store, was built in 1870 by Lockwood and Mawson. It features hammer-dressed stone and an ashlar stone flagged roof. The building has a semicircular projection from a raised terrace, with the roof serving as a viewing balcony and steps on either side. There are four tall doorways with monolithic jambs and French windows, positioned between slight projections with rusticated quoins. The central feature includes a carved semicircular-arched recess with a shell motif, which is recessed for a drinking fountain on a pedestal. Above the doorways is an entablature and cornice, along with a low balustrade that has five circles set over it, with the date in the center. On either side, there are two flights of steps with half landings and matching balustrades. The roof is a platform approached by three steps, upon which stands a statue of Sir Titus Salt, a later addition. This structure is part of the park that opened in 1871 for the model village of Saltaire.
