Description

The Unitarian Church, along with its adjoining boundary wall and bridge, was built around 1900. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs, showcasing a Perpendicular Revival style. The church has a cruciform plan situated on a steeply sloping site, with the west entrance at ground level and a community hall and other business rooms located below and to the east.

The east end of the church features a flat-roofed two-storey projection with two two-light mullioned windows, and below it, there is a canted bay window with three lights. The chancel's east gable has a five-light pointed arched window with panel tracery, and below it, a four-light cross mullioned window with two major mullions. The transepts are adorned with five-light pointed arch panel tracery windows, and beneath them are large cross-mullioned windows. Each transept has lower gabled wings to the east with irregular fenestration.

The nave clerestory consists of three bays with shallow arched recesses and large segment-headed two-light Perpendicular windows. The buttressed crenellated aisles contain four traceried windows, and below them are large cross mullioned windows leading to the community hall, along with basement windows. The west front features a low brick wall topped with railings and square brick piers, which connects to the church via a segment-arched bridge with moulded ashlar coped parapets and steps leading to the churchyard.

The entrance porch projects and is crenellated, topped with a cross finial. The central entrance arch is segmental and made of ashlar, featuring carved bosses and two doors set at an angle. Above this, there is a five-light pointed arched window with panel tracery, and above that, the gable has a chequerboard pattern with a tiny lancet window.

Inside, the church has segment-headed nave arcades and a shallow plaster vault, along with tall dado panelling and original wooden fittings. At the time of the survey, the church was disused.
