Description
The gateway and adjoining walls at the garden entrance to Oaks Park were built in the early 18th century and early 19th century. The main gateway features a pair of corniced ashlar gate piers that are topped with carved urns. It includes elaborate, high-quality wrought-iron gates with an overthrow. The concave screen walls have ramped slab coping and a corniced square pier to the right. The adjoining wall is made of coursed squared stone, approximately 1.3 meters high, and has a wrought-iron pedestrian gate to the left of the main gateway. This wall curves to the left and then extends in a straight section about 100 meters long. Partway along this section, there is a short wall at right angles, which has a pair of rusticated ashlar gate piers with ball finials, leading to the stable yard. At the far end, a short section approximately 2.5 meters high connects to the rear of Oaks Park and contains a gateway.
