Description

Two houses, now a hostel, with an attached former coach house, were built around 1820 and later restored with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar and stucco dressings, and has a slate roof with a single ridge stack. It features a plinth, modillion eaves, a coped parapet with a central finial, and coped gables. The main facade has two storeys plus garrets, and a four-window arrangement of 16-pane sashes with panelled lintels and raised keystones. A central round-headed doorcase has fluted pilasters, imposts, a keystone, a multi-rebated recess, and a renewed six-panel door with a fanlight. Flanking the door are 16-pane sashes. To the right is a half-glazed French window with glazing bar sidelights and overlight, set within a corniced wooden surround. The rendered left return has a single round-headed window. The right return, facing Conway Street, features a central round-headed 12-pane sash with a keystone, flanked to the left by a blank section and to the right by a 16-pane sash. Above, there is a larger round-headed nine-pane sash. A central round-headed doorcase, with a multi-rebated recess and a 20th-century door and fanlight, is flanked to the left by a blank section and to the right by a 16-pane sash. To the right again is a low two-story former coach house with a 20th-century door and garage door, and a pitching eye above. The interior has not been inspected.
