Description

The building is a cowhouse with a hayloft and dovecote, dating from around 1800. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone and has a pantile roof. The structure is two storeys high and features a layout of two bays on either side of a central bay, which breaks forward. The central bay includes a wide, rusticated round-arched entrance. The outer bays have doors with overlights set in rock-faced surrounds, while the second and fourth bays contain slated casements also framed by similar rock-faced surrounds. A rock-faced sill band connects the first-floor openings, which feature slatted casements in rock-faced surrounds, although some windows are blocked. The central bay is topped with a pediment that has an oculus in the tympanum. Inside, a central arch leads to doorways for the cowhouse on both sides and to stone steps that ascend to the first-floor haylofts. The interior includes pattern-book king-post trusses supported by heavy scantling tie beams. Partition walls flank the central bay, and the attic space behind the pediment serves as a dovecote lined with wooden and plaster nesting holes.
