Description
The polygonal garden wall, located immediately to the northeast of Langold Farmhouse, dates from the mid-18th century and was built for Ralph Knight. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone, featuring brick lining on the south-facing sections, with ashlar copings and door surrounds. The wall has a polygonal shape with an east-west long axis, and its side walls flare to the south to maximize sunlight exposure. This attached wall encloses the garden at the rear of Langold Farmhouse. The southern side includes buttresses and two square-headed doorways, while the northern wall features a quoined panel with a doorway. The right return has a basket archway with projecting quoins and a keystone. This structure is likely a remnant of an ambitious design for Langold proposed by Ralph Knight, which remained unfinished after his death in 1768.
