Description

The outbuilding to the rear of Number 44A on King Street dates from around 1800. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof. The building is two storeys high and has four windows on the first floor. On the left side, there is a doorway without a door, which has an overlight and is topped by a rubbed-brick flat arch. Adjacent to this is a two-storey canted bay window, although the ground-floor openings of this bay are bricked up. To the right of the doorway, there is a boxed 16-pane sash window, followed by three openings with rubbed-brick flat arches; one is a bricked-up doorway, the next is a bricked-up window, and beyond that are the remains of a tripartite window.

On the first floor, the bay window on the left has a sash with glazing bars beneath a hipped roof, while the three windows on the right are sashes with glazing bars, with the leftmost having 16 panes. The building has a brick end stack on the left and two ridge stacks, one of which is truncated. The roof has a hipped right end.

At the rear, there are two doorways with overlights, one of which features an old six-panel door. The first floor has three sash windows with glazing bars. This outbuilding served as a service wing to the house now known as Nos 44A and 44B King Street and was once the home of the Darley family, who were former owners of Thorne's brewery.
