Description

This building in Godalming comprises two dwellings, originally a single house. It was refaced in the late 18th century, built upon a core dating back to the late 17th or early 18th century, and altered in the 20th century. The front is of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a plain tile roof. The building is two storeys with an attic, and has three bays, with a continuous rear outshut which has been raised at each end. A small-pane French window is on the right bay; a part-glazed door is at the left end. The windows are unevenly spaced. The end bays have multi-paned sash windows. The centre bay features a tripartite window on the ground floor, with four-pane sashes flanking a sash window with glazing bars. The first floor of the centre bay has a 16-pane sash window. Windows in the left bay are from the mid-to-late 20th century, with rebuilt brick arches; the other windows have flat brick arches. A tie rod is visible at the eaves between bays one and two. The parapet has been rebuilt at the top and has flat stone coping. The roof has a ridge stack between bays one and two, and an external stack at the right end, within the roof pitch, with a 20th-century rebuilt top. The right return (number 28) is pebble-dashed and is from the early 20th century, containing a panelled reveal with wooden architrave and Art Nouveau coloured glazing. An inserted first-floor window is present, along with a two-light small-pane attic casement. The interior was not inspected, but records indicate a roof with staggered butt purlins and wind braces.
