Description
Stonegate House, now known as Masonic Hall, is a large house dating from the late 18th century that has been altered. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with seven bays across the front and six bays along the side, with some additions in the rear-right angle that are not of special interest.
The entrance front displays a symmetrical arrangement of two bays, three bays, and then two bays, with projecting piers between each section and a cemented plinth. The entrance features a door and overlight set within a wooden doorcase in the second bay, while the other windows are plain sashes with projecting sills and flat brick arches. Notably, the central window has a wider arch than the current sash, suggesting it may have originally been a door. The ground-floor window in the seventh bay has been painted. The roof is hipped with a truncated ridge stack located on the left side.
On the left return, there are 24-pane sashes in bays one, three, and four. Bay five features a canted one-storey bay window with sashes arranged in 8:12 and 8 lights, while bay six has a blind window. On the first floor, there are 4-pane sashes, with a gable end to the roof on the left and a truncated ridge stack positioned to the right of centre.
