Description
This section of roadside wall is located on the south side of Main Street, approximately 150 metres north of Hickleton Hall. It dates from the late 16th to early 17th century and is constructed from rubble limestone. The wall steps down towards the west and features projections that break forward at both the ends and the center. It has large quoins and chamfered plinths on the end projections. The right projection includes a two-light, recessed, chamfered, mullioned window that is unglazed. The narrower central projection has a single-light opening on each return, while the left projection features a rectangular opening with a plain lintel that is double-chamfered at the rear. This wall may incorporate remains of an early manor house, which was built for the Rodes family and was situated on or near this site.
