Description

The dovecote, located immediately to the north of Old Orchard House, is a structure that likely dates back to the 17th century. It is built from rubble limestone and features a 20th-century cement-tile roof. The building has large quoins and is a square, single-celled structure with two storeys.

On the south side, there is a low door that has a chamfered, quoined surround, although the drip mould above it is damaged. Above the door, there is a small window that is currently obscured by an iron clock face. The dovecote has a hipped roof topped with a ball finial, and there is a double-chamfered single-light window on the right side.

Inside, the dovecote contains brick nesting holes with stone ledges, and the internal floor and roof structure have been renewed. This building was originally part of the grounds of Hickleton Hall and is one of the few remaining structures from the 16th-century hall that once stood to the northeast.
