Description
This sundial, dating from 1842, is located approximately 20 metres to the west of the west front of Cantley Hall. It was made for W. Childers by Dollond of London. The sundial features a pedestal made of monolithic ashlar magnesian limestone, which has a square section. The pedestal includes a chamfered plinth, sunken-panelled sides, and a moulded cornice. The circular brass or bronze disc is inscribed with 'W. CHILDERS 1842 CANTLEY' and 'DOLLOND LONDON', and it has a simple, shaped gnomon. This sundial is included for its group value with the surrounding structures.
