Description
This sundial, dating from the mid-18th century, is located approximately 35 metres to the west of Darley Cliffe Hall in Worsbrough. It is made of sandstone and features an octagonal base supporting a turned, vase-shaped pedestal with bead moulding around the neck. Below the brass dial, which is now kept elsewhere, there is cyma-moulding. The dial is inscribed with the names 'I. Metcalfe / 1756 / Henry Wood'. The name Metcalfe appears on several stone sundials still found around the Marquis of Rockingham's estate at Wentworth Woodhouse. Darley Cliffe Hall was previously occupied by the agent for that estate.
