Description
The High Stone is a carved natural rock outcrop located on Worsbrough Ridgewalk Way. The carving is dated 1756 and is likely associated with the Earl of Strafford. This naturally-bedded sandstone outcrop has a flat face facing southwest, featuring three blind, round-arched recesses beneath a sunken, shouldered panel that bears the inscription 'S 1756'. It is possible that a gazebo structure overlooking Wentworth Castle was originally attached to it.
