Description
The Gables, located at Darley Cliff, is a farmbuilding that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and underwent conversion in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed, dressed sandstone and features a 20th-century cement-tile roof. It stands two storeys high and has three bays, with large quoins accentuating its structure.
On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century door positioned to the right of the center, set within a tall, quoined opening that has a deep lintel. To the left of this door, there are three slit windows with casements, while a doorway on the far right has been glazed. The first floor showcases three square surrounds with chamfered oculi that contain fixed casements. The building is topped with shaped kneelers and concrete gable copings, and it has an end stack on the left side.
On the left return, there are two glazed oculi similar to those on the front. The Gables is attached via a roof canopy to a converted barn, which is not of special interest. The building is included in the register for its group value.
