Description
This is an L-shaped range of farm buildings located approximately 30 meters to the north-west of Stotfold Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The structure is built of rubble sandstone with stone slate eaves courses beneath a pantile roof. The L-shaped plan consists of a barn forming one limb and a cowhouse with a hayloft forming the other, with the angle now filled by a 20th-century covered yard. The buildings are two storeys high.
The cowhouse range features three quoined and Tudor-arched doorways, a double-chamfered window on the right, and a central door flanked by small, chamfered lights that are now blocked, along with slatted casements in the positions of square-headed doorways. The barn on the left has a chamfered, Tudor-arched waggon entrance and slit vents. Both ranges have kneelers and roll-moulded gable copings. The rear of the cowhouse includes three two-light, double-chamfered mullioned windows, with the ground-floor window having a dripstone. There are external steps leading to a door in the rear gable of the barn, and the left return of the barn has a quoined, arched waggon entrance that is now set behind a sliding door.
Inside, there is a spiral stone staircase in the cowhouse range, and the principal-rafter truss roof with double purlins incorporates much reused timber.
