Description

The building immediately to the north-west of Stotfold Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmbuilding that has been altered and is now used as a calf-pen. It is constructed of roughcast sandstone with stone slate eaves courses beneath a pantile roof. The structure has two storeys and a two-room plan.

On the ground floor, there is a chamfered, quoined doorway to the left of the centre, which features a Tudor-arched lintel and has the date 1952 rendered above it. To the left of this doorway are the remains of a double-chamfered, mullioned window with a dripstone. To the right, there is an inserted door with a wooden lintel, accompanied by a small casement window.

On the first floor, there are two double-chamfered, two-light, mullioned windows to the left, which are now boarded and have dripstones. A similar opening to the right has been lowered to form a door. The projecting end stacks have been truncated and roofed over. At the rear, there is a 20th-century lean-to that is not of special interest.

Inside, the building features a massive kitchen fireplace on the ground floor to the left, which has a chamfered, segmental arch with a projecting keystone. There is a transverse ceiling beam with a tongue-stopped chamfer. The right gable contains a blocked fireplace on the ground floor and a chamfered, arched fireplace in the room above. The original king-post trusses with cambered tie beams are linked by an axial ceiling beam.
