Description
The barn attached to the north side of Royd Hill Farmhouse is a structure dating from the 16th or 17th century, built in two phases. It features timber framing with cladding added in the 17th or 18th century and has been altered over time. The exterior is made of coursed squared rubble and is topped with a stone slate roof. The barn consists of four and a half internal bays, with the half bay located in the center. There is a square-headed cart entrance in the third bay and a later doorway to the left. The farmhouse attached to the right is not of special interest. At the rear, there is a projecting gabled porch with an opposing cart entrance that has a cambered head.
Inside, the barn has four frames with king-post trusses. The jawed posts are arched-braced to the tie-beams, and some braces from the posts to the arcade plate can be seen on the front wall. The second and third trusses are very close together, indicating the two phases of construction.
