Description

Garland House Surgery is a late 18th-century building that originally served as council offices. It is constructed from deeply-coursed, squared sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof, with a stone slate roof on the rear left wing. The building has a three-storey, five-bay symmetrical facade, complemented by a short two-storey wing to the rear right and a lower two-storey wing to the rear left.

The facade includes a plinth and projecting quoins. The central entrance features a 20th-century door and overlight set within a stone architrave, which is adorned with consoles and a cornice. The flanking windows are sash style, set in projecting square-faced surrounds. A band runs at the cornice level, and the first-floor windows mirror those on the ground floor but have 20th-century casements, with the third bay window featuring sill blocks. The second-floor windows are shorter, with six-pane sashes and sill blocks on the third bay.

The building is topped with a moulded eaves course, which is finished with a short returned section of cornice at each end. Moulded kneelers and square-cut gable copings add to the architectural detail. The ashlar plinths at the end stacks have been renewed in brick.
