Description

Number 1 Rockley Old Hall and the adjoining garage is a former cowhouse with an attached cartshed, now converted into a single dwelling and garage. It dates from the early 18th century and underwent conversion around 1980. The building is constructed from rubble sandstone and features stone slate roofs.

The house, located on the left, is two storeys tall and has three bays, with an addition on the left that is not of special interest. The single-storey cartshed on the right has four bays and is open-fronted, supported by square ashlar piers with plinths and abaci. The house displays large quoins and has three quoined doorways; the central doorway has a part-glazed door, while the outer doorways have been converted into casements. On the first floor, there are two quoined and rebated surrounds with casements and a central narrow casement. The building features shaped kneelers, square-cut gable copings, and a wallstone end stack on the left with tabling.

Inside the cartshed, there are old principal-rafter trusses and re-used roof timbers. This building forms a link to the adjoining barn, now known as Numbers 2 and 2a Rockley Old Hall. It is included for its group value.
