Description

This is a house, originally built as a schoolhouse in 1795, located on School Lane in Heslington. A plaque states that the land was given by Henry Yarburgh Esqr., and the building was constructed via subscription by the township. The house is built of pinkish-brown brick with red brick detailing and a pantile roof. It follows a central lobby-entry plan. The original structure is single-storey and three bays wide, with an outshut that now serves as a garage to the right and another outshut to the rear. The front entrance features a 20th-century part-glazed door with an overlight, set beneath a replaced cambered head. The windows are replacement 16-pane sashes in altered openings, also with cambered heads. A ridge stack is present. The gable ends have tumbled-in brickwork. Later 20th-century additions and alterations have been made. The building is included in the listing for group value.
