Description
This building, located at 5 Chapter House Street, is a Grade II listed structure in York. It was originally known as No. 6 and the adjacent stables on Ogleforth. The property features garages with flats above and dates back to the 16th century, although it was rebuilt in the 18th century. The building has a timber frame that is encased in orange-brown brick laid in random bond, sitting on a brick plinth. The first floor is rendered and whitewashed, topped with a pantile roof that has brick coping, kneelers, and stacks.
The exterior is two stories high with a six-window front and a jettied first floor. On the right end, there is a six-panel door with paired 12-pane sash windows to the left, while the remaining ground floor bays are filled with garage doors. The first floor features 6-pane sash windows that are recessed in timber surrounds. The right return has two stories and an attic, with a two-window gable wall. The ground and first floor windows to the left are 12-pane sashes, and to the right, there are 4-pane sashes, all with painted sills. The window arches are segmental, with those on the ground floor being renewed. In the attic, there is one 1-light window and one 2-light window. The interior has not been inspected.
