Description
The Stables is a building that was originally a stable and coach house for Chapel Allerton Hall, later converted into garages and now used as flats. It dates from the late 18th century and was converted around 1990. The structure is made of red brick with stone details and features a roof covered in large grey slates.
The building is two storeys high and has 11 windows arranged in a pattern of 3:1:5:1:1. The fourth and tenth bays project forward and are topped with pediments that have segmental recesses. The ground floor has blocked carriage arches, with modern windows replacing the original openings; the right arch includes a keystone and impost blocks. The first floor features Venetian windows. The entrance bays one, nine, and eleven have keystones above flat brick arches, similar to the arches of the original windows, which now have 20th-century small-pane casements. Bays six and eight contain former blind elliptical windows with keyblocks, which have been fitted with small-pane frames. The interior has not been inspected.
