Description
St Matthew's Parish Hall is a parish hall built in 1912, designed by Sydney D Kitson. It features red brick with ashlar dressings and graduated Westmorland slate roofs with ashlar coped gables. The building is single storey.
The south-west front has a five-window facade, with three central three-light cross casement windows that have leaded glazing, flanked by single two-light similar windows. Each corner of the facade has a square buttress topped with an ashlar cap and urn. The roof is crowned with a central square cupola that has a stepped leaded top and a weather vane.
To the left, there is a lower single storey wing with three large circular windows and a projecting canted main entrance. This entrance features double doors with a triple overlight set within a moulded ashlar door surround. To the right is a similar lower set back wing with two circular windows flanking a simple glazed door, which is accessed by a flight of stone steps. The rear facade includes a low single storey wing with eight wooden cross casement windows and a single door with an overlight to the left.
Inside, there is a circular entrance hall with a black and white marble floor. The hall features classical style doorcases and a classical panelled plaster ceiling.
