Description

The Cottage is a small house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a stone slate roof. The building originally comprised two bays, with a two-storey bay added later, set back on the right side. Quoins are visible. The front entrance is located to the left of centre and features a board door with a pilastered architrave and a segmental pediment. There are four-pane sash windows with painted stone sills and lintels. The roof has paired wooden gutter brackets, and there are stone end stacks. The off-centre front door suggests the house was initially designed with a direct-entry plan. The quoins stop below the current eaves, and the shallow roof pitch indicates that the eaves were raised and taller first-floor windows were inserted when new window frames were introduced. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
