Description
The war memorial at the entrance to the Old Graveyard on Harrogate Road in Chapel Allerton was built around 1920. It is made of ashlar stone and features a high chamfered plinth topped with a tall tapered cross that has a small crucifix on the west side. Flanking the memorial are cast-iron railings with decorative scroll finials. On the west side of the plinth, there is a plaque that reads: 'TO THE/ UNCONQUERED/ 1914-1918/ 1939-1945'. On the east side, a brass plaque states: 'THEY BATTLED, THEY ENDURED, THEY DIED', along with a list of 85 names.
