Description
No. 9, Ogleforth is an early 19th-century house, with evidence of earlier origins, renovated around 1980. The front is stuccoed over a painted stone plinth, while the rear is of orange brick in a random bond pattern. The timber doorcase, guttering, and pantile roof to the front (with slate to the rear) are notable features, as are the brick stacks.
The two-storey, two-window front has a central, pedimented doorcase with reeded pilaster jambs incorporating impost blocks, a panelled door, and a radial fanlight recessed within a reeded architrave. A passage arch to the right-hand side contains a 20th-century iron gate within a reeded architrave. To the left of the front door is a full-height canted bay window with 8:12:8-pane sash windows on both floors. To the right of the front door, on both floors, are 12-pane sash windows with painted sills and channelled wedge lintels with grooved keyblocks. A raised band marks the first floor, and the eaves feature moulded guttering incorporating paired modillions.
The interior ground floor includes an early 18th-century panelled door in the entrance passage, leading to a room on the left with a reeded cornice. A round arch, with reeded jambs and moulded imposts, defines the stairhall. The open string staircase has stick balusters and a serpentine handrail, wreathed at the foot around a turned newel. The first floor was not inspected, but the front left room is reported to retain its original fireplace.
