Description

The Dutch House is a house, dating to circa 1650, with later 17th-century gables, and extensively rebuilt in 1955. It is now a garage. The front and rear are of orange-red brick in English garden-wall bond, with brick coped shaped gables at the front; returns are in stretcher bond with tumbled brick gables. The roof is pantiled, with brick coping and kneelers. The building has two storeys and an attic, with four unequal bays, three of which break slightly from the wall plane on both floors; the left end bay is blank. A sunken-panel door is set within a keyed round arch with imposts. To the left of the door is a three-light timber mullioned and transomed window, beneath a segmental pediment, and to the right is a segmental pediment, rebuilt, but with the original window omitted. A central window on the first floor is a two-light brick mullioned and transomed oriel, set on a tapered brick corbel. To the left of the oriel is a three-light window with timber mullions; to the right is a one-light window with a brick transom, all with triangular pediments. The gables have square attic windows; all windows have square lattice glazing. The right return includes a garage door on the ground floor. On the second floor, part of a moulded brick door architrave survives; the attic has a blocked window in a moulded brick surround. The interior was gutted, but a later fireplace remains against the left gable wall. The building is of group value.
