Description
This is a 16th-century building, altered in later centuries, located on Whitecross Street. It is two storeys high, with an attic, and constructed of whitewashed brick with a pantile roof, featuring stone-coped gable ends. The front has three flush windows with sash glazing bars set under stucco flat arches. The ground floor has two 19th-century canted bays. The main entrance features a door of six fielded panels, two glazed panels beneath a rectangular fanlight, and a modern hood, all set within a Doric door surround.
The section of No. 20 to the left is from the early 19th century, built of brick. This section has one window to the top floor, with a rusticated lintel and glazing bars. The ground floor previously had a similar window but has been altered to create an entry for a modern garage. A door of six panels, originally with a blocked rectangular fanlight and a rusticated lintel with a keystone, is also present.
This building is part of a group with Nos. 2, 8-20 (even), and Nos. 55 and 57, although Nos. 12 and the Leavers Warehouse premises within that group have only local interest.
