Description

The Lodge at Bootham Park Hospital is a building constructed in 1857. It is made of yellow brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. The structure has a T-plan and consists of one storey plus an attic.

The north-west front, which faces the drive, includes a crosswing gable on the right. This gable has chamfered quoins and a one-storey bay window made of brick with stone dressings. There are three sashes without glazing bars in the front, each with segmental heads, and one similar window on each side. The bay window's roof is slated and has bracketed eaves. Above the bay window, the attic features a sashed window with a stone surround, where the jambs extend upward into a round arch with a carved tympanum. The roof verges project and have plain bargeboards, topped with a central finial.

The main range has one bay and includes a ground-floor window that is sashed with a tripartite stone surround. Above the central light, there is a semicircular arch with a carved tympanum. The attic is illuminated by a flat-roofed dormer. To the right, at the angle with the cross-wing, there is a porch. The outer doorway features a round arch with a keystone, and above it is a shaped tablet inscribed with '1857 CA'.

On the south-west wall of the cross-wing, which faces Bootham, there are two tripartite windows similar to the one in the main range, with linked lintels and a sill band. Between these windows and below the eaves, there is a recess that contains the shield of arms of the City of York. A chimney with clustered shafts is located on the ridge of the cross-wing. The interior has not been inspected.
